When you are in a foreign land, you should be vigilant with your money at all times. You don’t want to lose all the money you have, or realize that you can’t access your money easily, thus limiting your experience when you are on vacation. When visiting Bucerias in Mexico, here are a few money tips you should carry along with you at all times:
Have your money in pesos
Pesos is the official currency in Mexico, as well as in Bucerias. Once you land at the airport, be sure to exchange or convert your dollars into pesos for ease of transactions. Dollars are also accepted, especially by Bucerias vacation rentals, but if you carry larger bills, you might find it hard to break them into smaller denominations.
Dollars are not very valuable as tips
You may be tempted to tip in dollars, but even though it will be a good gesture, it will be hectic for people to convert them into pesos. It will mean that they will have to go to banks, and endure long queues, in addition to paying heavy fees for the exchange. Due to this, most will appreciate if you could just tip in pesos to save them from the hassles.
Avoid carrying large quantities of cash
For obvious reasons, don’t walk around with lots of cash. There are banks and ATMs, which you could always go to when you need additional cash. The ATMs will dispense your money in pesos, though you may have to pay a little extra in terms of fees.
There are also a good number of establishments in Bucerias, which accept international credit and debit cards. Visa and MasterCard will charge you a fee of 1% by their respective clearing houses, irrespective of the country you are in. In Mexico, the transaction costs for Visa and MasterCard are between 5% and 6% of each transaction. American Express, on the other hand, offers a transaction fee of 2% for international transactions.
